While synthetic fur (often made from PVC or polyester) may seem like a convenient alternative, it comes with significant downsides. By choosing responsibly sourced alpaca fleece, we ensure that our products are not only durable and luxurious but also environmentally friendly and animal-conscious.
Here’s why we made this decision:
Artificial fur, commonly made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyester, is often marketed as an ethical alternative to natural fleece. However, the reality is quite different:
Plastic-Based & Non-Biodegradable – Synthetic fur is derived from petroleum-based plastics, which do not decompose naturally. Every wash releases microplastics into waterways, contributing to ocean pollution and harming wildlife.
Poor Breathability & Comfort – Unlike natural fibers, synthetic fur does not regulate temperature well, often trapping heat and moisture. This can lead to discomfort for horses, especially during prolonged wear.
Shorter Lifespan & Inferior Performance – PVC fur deteriorates quickly with use, becoming stiff or matted after multiple washes. Its durability is significantly lower compared to natural fleece.
Toxic Production Process – The manufacturing of PVC-based fur involves harmful chemicals, including chlorine and phthalates, which pose environmental risks and health concerns.
